snow sculpture workshop

From 27th January to 2nd of February I participated in the annual snow sculpture workshop at Hovden in Setesdalen, Norway. It was an exiting and inspiring week for me, and I will definitely work with snow or ice again. I am already considering making a snow sculpture as a part of my continuing project A towering Obsession (for info on this particular project, check out the “visual art” section).

This year 30 artists were participating in the workshop, nine of which were experienced ice and snow sculptors and worked as team leaders in an effort to make seven sculptures in snow and two in ice. I worked with Lotte Karlsen from Norway and Julia Orlando from Australia, who was team leader and also responsible for the main design of our abstracted treehouse structure.

The workshop was initiated by Ole Morten Rokvam and Agder Kunstnersenter. Photos from the work process as well as from the opening on 2nd February can be found here. Photos will also be added gradually as the sculptures are melting down.
